Taking the time to listen - really listen - is a crucial recruitment skill that’s often overlooked.

Many recruitment agencies talk about their focus on long-term relationships, but in reality, don’t live up to that promise.

It’s not always easy to do, it takes a lot of work to keep in touch with a sizable network. But it’s an approach that we’ve always followed at Boston Hale, with considerable success, because of our people and how they operate.

Recruitment is a people business, so it’s essential that our team is built of recruitment consultants who are genuinely interested and have that innate desire to help.

Catherine is a great example.

The testimonial below shows why listening, understanding and acting on the customer’s needs is fundamental to becoming a successful recruitment consultant – for the long term.

As the Head of a Finance team, I've dealt with many recruiters over the years but Catherine really stands out from the rest. She first introduced herself to me a couple of years ago to see if she could assist with a role I was recruiting for.
She really listened as I outlined the type of candidate I was looking for as a fit for the team, asking questions to clarify certain points. Then, she followed through on everything she said and only forwarded people who fit what I was looking for.
I prefer to only work with a couple of recruitment agents and so, when I was made redundant, I automatically reached out to Catherine. Again, the service was first class. She listened to what I was looking for, gave great advice and followed through with regular catch up's even though the market was quiet.
Catherine supported me in finding the role I'm currently in. She was open and honest throughout, regularly checked in to see how I was getting on and provided me with useful feedback.
Whether I'm looking for a role or need to hire, I will always seek out Catherine, as she took the time to get to know me – both as a hiring manager and as a candidate.
