Main Duties of the role


  • Managing complex Subject Access Requests:

    • Administration of SAR management processes
    • Communication with requestors and other stakeholders
    • Analysis of data requirements, identifying the need for clarifications and the possible application of exemptions
    • Requesting, obtaining and collating search material from services
    • Determining what material may be disclosed and consulting with individuals to whom there is a duty of confidence
    • Compiling and redacting responses in PDF format
    • Preparing material and documentation for secure release

  • Managing requests for rectification & erasure
  • Managing requests under Schedule 2 Part 1(2) of the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Providing subject matter expertise on the Data Protection, and other Information Management, legislation in relation to information requests, business processes and research projects to staff at all levels

  • Experience Knowledge & skills


  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulations in particular in relation to individual rights to information (understanding of the role of the Information Commissioner)
  • Significant previous experience in a similar type of position dealing with complex Data Subject Access requests
  • Extensive practical experience of applying information rights exemptions and handling requests sensitively
  • Excellent understanding of what constitutes personal data of the individual
  • Excellent comprehension and analysis skills, with the ability to accurately specify data search requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, practical experience of writing DSAR responses to requestors explaining the information that has been provided to them
  • Excellent organisational and record keeping skills
  • Strong technical skills including the ability to convert documents and emails into PDF formats (considerable experience of using redaction and other tools within Adobe Acrobat PRO)
