Boston Hale is working with a leading international law firm to appoint a Practice Innovation & Knowledge Associate to its central innovation team in London.
This is a non-practicing, non-billing role for a qualified lawyer with transactional experience who wants to apply that background to AI, legal technology, knowledge management and legal service delivery.
The successful candidate will work with partners, lawyers, practice leaders and business-services teams to understand transactional workflows and implement practical AI, technology, knowledge and workflow solutions.
Candidates should understand the legal AI market and be familiar with platforms such as Legora, Harvey, CoCounsel, Lexis+ Protégé, Vincent AI, Microsoft Copilot, Luminance and Spellbook, and how these tools can be applied to transactional workflows.
Key responsibilities
Work with transactional lawyers and practice leaders to understand workflows and opportunities for improvement.
Develop practical AI, automation and legal technology use cases across transactional practices.
Develop AI-enabled workflows for due diligence, drafting, document review, contract analysis, deal management and transaction execution.
Assess how legal AI platforms can be used within transactional workflows.
Help lawyers develop effective prompting strategies and use generative AI appropriately.
Initiate, scope and manage practice innovation and knowledge projects.
Run pilots and Proof of Concept exercises, defining success criteria and testing practical application.
Work with legal technology vendors and internal teams to translate lawyer requirements into workable solutions.
Support implementation, training and adoption of AI and legal technology platforms.
Deliver workshops, demonstrations, office hours and practical support.
Help practice teams work within client requirements and restrictions around AI.
Improve access to precedents, model documents, know-how and deal experience.
Extract and structure useful data from agreements, transaction documents, repositories and systems.
Support knowledge management and AI-enabled knowledge initiatives.
Help practice teams embed successful tools and workflows into day-to-day legal practice.
Monitor developments across legal AI, transactional technology and innovation.
What we're looking for
You will be a qualified lawyer with approximately three years' PQE or more, with substantive client-facing transactional experience. Experience within a leading UK or international law firm would be advantageous.
Relevant backgrounds could include:
Corporate and M&A
Private Equity
Banking and Finance
Leveraged Finance
Capital Markets
Private Funds and Investment Management
Restructuring and Special Situations
Technology Transactions
Commercial Transactions
Other transaction-heavy legal practices
You may already be working in Practice Innovation, Knowledge, Legal Technology, Legal Operations or Legal Engineering.
Alternatively, you may be a practicing transactional lawyer with experience in AI, legal technology, workflow improvement or innovation initiatives who is interested in moving into a dedicated innovation role.
AI and legal technology experience
An interest in AI alone will not be sufficient.
Candidates should demonstrate practical involvement in improving how legal work is delivered. This may include:
Implementing AI or legal technology within a transactional practice.
Developing AI-enabled deal or contract workflows.
Using AI for drafting, diligence, review or transaction management.
Running pilots or Proof of Concept projects.
Working with platforms such as Legora, Harvey, CoCounsel, Luminance or Spellbook.
Participating in AI or innovation steering groups.
Redesigning legal workflows or processes.
Introducing document or process automation.
Working directly with legal technology vendors.
Developing precedent systems, model documents, clause libraries or structured know-how.
Training lawyers on AI and new technology.
Driving adoption of new tools and working practices.
Technical capability
This is not a software engineering role and candidates are not expected to build applications or AI agents.
What matters is the ability to understand transactional workflows, identify where technology can improve them, evaluate legal technology platforms, and work with lawyers, vendors and technical specialists to turn those opportunities into practical solutions.
The successful candidate will need strong stakeholder-management skills and the credibility to work directly with partners and experienced transactional lawyers.
